ABOUT MOWBRAY COLLECTABLES

Mowbray Collectables is New Zealand's leading philatelic and numismatic auction house. 

Postal stamp auctions are held monthly, with sale catalogues reaching many thousands of customers world-wide. 

We typically hold major public auctions of stamps and coins/banknotes/medals twice each year, as well as an annual Direct Sale fixed price list of stamp items and Sports Memorabilia auctions.

Principal Officers

The company employs 16 staff. Major shareholder and Founder Director, John Mowbray, continues his long philatelic leadership with the company.

Since his boyhood days, collecting stamps and then beginning to buy and sell them whilst at college, John has achieved a number of "firsts" in his career. In 1978 he became the first member of the NZSDA to hold an auctioneers license and in attending the London World Stamp Exhibition in 1980 his company was the first NZ stamp dealer to have a stand at an international exhibition. In the following year J R Mowbray (Philatelist) won the Wellington region Air New Zealand Enterprise Award and was a finalist in the National Awards.

John was elected President of the NZ Stamp Dealers Association in 1983 and President of the International Federation of Stamp Dealers Associations in 1990-92.

David Galt, Managing Director, has a long history in numismatics and has also been a stamp collector. He has been President of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand since 2006 and represents New Zealand on the Numismatic Association of Australia Board.

Mowbray Collectables is a licensed auctioneer and dealer in taonga tūturu.

Maintaining an International Presence

The company reaches over 5,000 customers with many resident in countries outside New Zealand. The company is based in Otaki, a small semi-rural township, about 50 minutes drive north of New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. Widespread use of email, online communications and excellent international courier services make it easy to deal on a truly international basis with each customer, no matter where, receiving individual attention.

Most years we attend international stamp and coin shows. The company has had stands at international exhibitions in many overseas cities. Despite the Covid epidemic, we are still trading with many overseas clients. Its easy and international delivery systems are operating again {Delete this].
